Here is where you will find some extra info on what to do and not do in wardrobe and locations. Of course this is all such things we will go over in our communication along the way.

JMOST PHOTOGRAPHY ENGAGEMENTS

What to expect

A Guide of Where To Go in Seattle

A Seattle engagement photography session is designed to be a creative and fun session that seeks to capture the essence of your love.  The session is casual and relaxed, and we strive to capture a mixture of both candid and posed art shots.  I love engagement sessions because it allows us to work together and photograph you before the big wedding day – but in much more relaxed surroundings. This is a great way for us to see how each other work together and what we will be anticipating on your BIG DAY.

Clients ask me many questions, from “What’s a good location in Seattle to photograph at?” and “What are we supposed to wear?”  The truth is you and your fiancé are the best people to answer that. I want you both to be relaxed and have fun. This is an important time in your life so embrace it. I also want you both to realize you have an amazing story. Every one of you amazing couples has an amazing story, so lets show it in the art we create. Locations and outfit choices should compliment your personalities.

Mainstream locations like Kerry Park, Pioneer Square, or Pikes Place Market present an urban feel.  Snoqualmie Falls and Rattlesnake Lake give a more rustic and outdoor, natural feel. You can get a nice posh uptown modern feel from the Seattle Library and inside the museums.  The truth is, there are lots of places around that give you a great options.  You may want to have me photograph your engagement session at a location significant to the both of you, such as the place where you first met or a favorite spot you go to on a nice day. When you do this, you’ll want to wear something that highlights your features and brings out your personality.  So this means you should wear what you normally would wear as if you were going out for a night on the town (i.e. date night).  Men - wear jeans and a nice pressed button-up shirt.  Women - you can wear jeans or a nice dress.  Make sure your clothes are clean and fresh.  If it’s cooler outside, then bring a nice jacket that you can wear and take off easily.

Please note that some venues may require an additional fee due to the cost involved in photographing at a particular venue, such as parking or park admission (denoted by ($)).  This fee will be added to your final total.  Also, if you want to photograph at a private venue, such as a hotel or other landmark that requires a permit or moderation with a site coordinator, my studio may assess a fee equivalent to one hour of time since photographing at these types of venues almost always requires a site visit and coordination with a site vendor.

Clothing and Outfit Recommendations

  Absolutely “Yes”

  • Solid colors can really help distinguish the two of you from the background. Bring bright colors and not all in black.

  • Jeans tend to blend into most any setting and allow you to interact more with the environment (i.e. sitting in grass, walking on beach, etc.)

  • Think of two options. Maybe one very dressy outfit, something you would wear to a fancy wedding, and something you would wear to go out on a date. This is celebrating you both! Let's dress for this amazing occasion.

  • Cute dresses give the look of having a “night out on the town” and really spice up the photographs.

  • Accessories, such as jewelry, scarves, belts, hats, and sunglasses add element and can compliment many of the poses we’ll try.

  • Think of different necklines and textures. This gives us options of styles and your style.

  • Always bring dress coats with you. One for weather but for a quick change up of look as well.

  • Drink lots & LOTS of water the night before. It shows in your images how amazing hydrated skin can be.

 Probably “Not”

  • Baggy or tight clothing can either make you look bigger than you really are, or can make you feel uncomfortable and/or self conscious in front of the camera.

  • You need to wear outfits I can pose you in and feel unrestricted.

  • Multi-colored shirts are too busy.  Any shirt (or pant) with more than two colors will draw the attention to your outfit and away from you. Solids are a better idea. If you want textures think of ruffles, necklines, and fabrics.

  • Clothing with logos and graphics compete for your attention in the photograph.

  • Matching outfits take away from your uniqueness.  Remember, the session is about the two of you together – two unique people.  Your outfits should show that you’re unique – not the same.

  • Running shoes should be left at the gym, unless running is part of the engagement session.  Wear nice dress shoes, like Doc’s. And always bring your fancy heels ladies! Height is not an issue even if you are taller with them beautiful stilettos on. I am a professional and I know what to do and can ensure you will look amazing. :D

  • Overdoing makeup can be distracting.  When in doubt – err on the side of going light rather than overdoing it.

Of course these suggestions are only that – suggestions.  Ultimately the choice is yours.  But remember, the best thing is to be you.  Don’t go out and buy new outfits that you’ll never wear again solely for the engagement session.

Remember – it’s all about you and you should feel comfortable. So if you can't sit in the outfit for more then five minutes then it is probably not ideal.
